From an early age, Bill Harris demonstrated his talents in both business and as a practical engineer. Just a kid during the depression, he early on learned to work hard and to do hard work.

At the same time, a few miles away, Lucille Mendosa was growing up and learning the business and management skills necessary to help her father with his retail clothing store. She and Bill met in high school, began dating, and were married soon after graduation.

After years of working for and with others, Bill and Lucille combined their experience and skills to found the business in 1956 and incorporated as TUFF BOY in 1963.

Beginning with several models of tilt-bed trailers that established the company’s reputation for high-quality construction, and continuing over the years with better models of hoppers, flat beds, tubs, vans, and many types of other ag equipment, TUFF BOY continues to deliver to this day. 

The popular Tuff Max Hoppers;  Evolution Hoppers;  Tuff Pro Produce Trailers; and Pro Star Tank Haulers set a higher standard in transportation for a variety of Ag commodities.

In 2023, a new evolution for the TB family began with the establishment of TUFF BOY EQUIPMENT, an acquisition of assets from SBM of Gridley, California. This is proving to be a perfect combination of talent, skills, and experience to expand the TB mission of building first-class ag equipment.

Still family owned and over seven decades since Bill and Lucille founded the company, TUFF BOY continues to maintain it’s reputation for quality and innovation.
